Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

On behalf of the Mayo fraternity, it is my esteemed privilege and honor to welcome you all to the sixth annual Mayo College Girls' School Model United Nations Conference held from the 26th to 29th of April, 2017.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world" - M.K Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi was an epitome of what he meant by saying the above quoted words. This is what is the need of the hour but, we at MCGS wish to give you all a golden opportunity to re think and contemplate the way forward for a new world order.

Through this conference we wish to provide each one of us with an opportunity to rediscover ourselves by rethinking the way of life we lead and develop a new world order to make a better world and walk into a better tomorrow.

In this sixth edition of the MCGS MUN, we have kept in mind the current developments around the world and carefully selected the experiences and opportunities we wish to offer you. The idea guiding this conference this year is to make a paradigm shiftt by resolving problems that the global society is facing today.

This year at MCGSMUN we will be stimulating 8 diverse committees with the aim of articulating comprehensive action plans that can be implemented in order to resolve issues of global importance. We shall take a dip in the ocean of history to rediscover World War 2, to be able to analyze and rethink of better action plans. The Parliamentary standing committee will simulate debates of a more regional prospective whereas sensitive issues will be deleberated upon in UNESCO, UN Women and also in Commission on Narcotic Drugs. In this era where security is of utmost importance, we shall convene the conference on disarmament for a secure tomorrow. In a nutshell our idea is to take a step towards understanding what our utopic world looks like and how to reach out for it.

Having said that, I hope to see you all in April in for yet another memorable, exciting and successful conference with the purpose of Resolve to evolve, so that we can turn out thoughts and best intentions into actions.

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

Right from its inception till this day, MCGSMUN has helped to empower each and every young mind with knowledge, confidence, rational thinking and aspirations for achieving success. MUN has driven each one of us to put in immense amount of efforts to ensure that the conference fosters international diplomacy and resolves various crises.

In this darkness of conflicts across the globe, there is only one beam of hope and happiness which is "HUMANITY". To resolve all the worldly issues and bring about peace, all we need to do is stimulate humanness. It is significant to understand that humanity is not to be lost in any circumstances. Humanity is like an ocean, if few ocean drops are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. One of the most debated agendas, the Syrian Conflict, which has been continuing for seven years, has become the biggest scar on the face of mankind. The deplorable condition of the citizens who are not only deprived of basic facilities like proper shelter, food and environment but are also affected in sensitive aspects such as religion and values is an issue of concern. The uncountable internally displaced people and the massive refugee influx has further intensified the situation. In this crisis, humanity is not only lost by the terrorists but also by the countries who are not taking initiative to solve the crisis or help the deprived citizens. Besides humanitarian aid, the countries should keep aside their differences and accord on the decisions taken over the years. Therefore, this year at MCGSMUN it would be our aim to understand humanity in its real sense and take a step towards it. It should also be our motive to enhance negotiations in our committees and reach consensus for resolving crises. But in the end, it all comes down to values. It becomes our responsibility to create a world, which will be inherited by the next generation, and be defined by the values enshrined by the UN Charter: peace, justice, respect, human rights, tolerance and solidarity.

As we begin the iteration of our sixth session of Mayo College Girls' School Model United Nations 2017, we are committed to provide an unparalleled delegate experience and present a unique range of committees and councils. This year MCGSMUN is stimulating eight diverse committees addressing various issues. To combat terrorism and ensure nuclear non-proliferation, we have the Commission on Disarmament, to establish a drug free world we have the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. By emphasizing more on human rights, we have the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the UN Women. To solve the continuous internal turmoil in India, we have the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs. Looking at war which led to the formation of UNO, we have a Joint Crisis Committee on the World War II. To promote journalism, we have the International Press Corps. These committees under their jurisdiction and scope will uphold the words of UN Charter and strive towards resolving the crises.

Prioritizing hard work, our team hopes to promote innovation and engagement through MCGSMUN 2017 and make it a good learning experience for all the delegates.

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is with great privilege and honour that I welcome you all to the sixth annual session of the Mayo College Girls' School Model United Nations Conference from the 26th to the 29th April 2017.

Abraham Lincoln said," The best way to predict the future is to create it," which means that for this future to be even slightly close to the UTOPIA we dream of, it is an absolute necessity for mankind as a whole to take the initiative to resolve the conflicts that plague our shattered world. If disturbing issues like the ISIS being a threat and the Middle-East being one of the most sesnsitive regions in the world or Donald Trump's harsh policies are a part of the future we hope for, there is clearly no salvation for us.

This year, MCGSMUN promises each delegate a complete learning experience as we offer a plethora of committees covering agendas which are both challenging and imperative. The committees range from conventional committees like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, Conference on Disarmament, Commission on Narcotic Drugs and United Nations Women to unconventional and specialised ones like the Historic Joint Crisis Committee based on World War II in which the delegates shall attempt to rewrite history, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs which shall deal with conflicts of regional importance and an International Press Corps for those delegates who are keen on developing their journalistic skills.

The conference offers an opportunity to our generation to be the change the world needs and better ourselves for a just and evolved tomorrow.

So let us come together this April to build the future we want as we, "Resolve to Evolve".

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

Over the decades, the world has changed, changed drastically, from war to peace, from destruction to development and from poverty to economic welfare, our world has taken dynamic leaps. Yet, there are several people who go without a day's meal, numerous places with no basic amenities, some who have never been educated and many struggling for survival. We all may live in ONE world but within ourselves we are NOT ONE. There are differences that we have created - differences between religious groups, castes, races and genders. We discriminate between the rich and poor, developed and underdeveloped and the educated and uneducated. These differences obstruct development and change in the world, They prevent us from evolving.

The only hope to save our world and lead it to a better tomorrow is us. As global citizens we have a responsibility vested in each one of US. We have the responsibility to nurture and protect the habitat our fore fathers have left for us. Therefore, it is necessary for us to learn, deliberate and resolve the issues that plague our world. We can all be leaders and take initiative to develop the underdeveloped, rehabilitate the destroyed, educate the uneducated and overcome the differences that divide us. We can come together as one and be the change to see the change.

We cordially invite you all to MCGS MUN 2017 for debates, discussions and resolutions to be made. Wars shall be averted, justice shall be given and peace shall be maintained as we come together and 'Resolve to Evolve'.

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the sixth annual session of the Mayo College Girls' School Model United Nations, 2017.

The committees which shall be hosted this year are both conventional and unconventional bodies of the United Nations namely, United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Historic Joint Crisis Committee consisting of the Allied and Axis Powers of World War II (HJCC), United Nations Women (UNW), Commission on Disarmament (COD), Commission on Narcotic Drugs(CND), Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs (PSCHA) and the International Press Corps(IPC).

In this new age, when there are so many obvious differences and sprouting challenges, it is extremely important that we unite. The need of the hour is to unite and resolve all issues of all countries, of all people, of all colors and of all creeds; to resolve to one prime purpose- 'to evolve.' Evolving the weak to strong, the famished to full, the broken to brave is what we wish to achieve. To fight ignorance, to combat greed and test our endurance is our endeavour. Therefore,

Come one, Come all,

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

'The United Nations was founded on the conviction that the nations of the world can and should cooperate to resolve conflics peacefully and change people's lives for the better'.-Ban Ki Moon

As our world has evolved, so have the challenges.Advances in technology are connecting and affecting us all in ways we could not have imagined even a decade ago;financial, food, health and energy crisis have shown no respect for national borders.Climate change and other ecological threats have highlighted that sustainable development depends equally on three component pillars: social developments, economic growth and environmental protection. In meeting these challenges, multilateral collaboration is more critical in the present time than ever before.Only by working together can we harness the opportunities presented by these monumental shifts and avert the risks they pose. This century began with a breakthrough. In 2000, the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) gave us a blueprint with an achievable timetable for meeting people's most crucial needs. We now have concrete results. With a growing number of development success stories-dramatic increase in school enrolement, expanded access to clean water, better control of disease, the growth of green technology-the transformative impact of MDGs is undeniable.

From Southern Sudan to Timor-Leste, from Tunisia to Kyrgyzstan, we have seen people longing for democratic accountability, freedom and human rights. History abounds with examples of resolution of these conflicts through dialogue. The main strategiess in order to prevent disputes from escalating into conflicts and to prevent recurrence of conflict, are preventive diplomacy and preventive disarmament. Therefore conflict resolution does not seem a far-fetched dream anymore.

We at MCGSMUN 2017 will continue to uphold and stand up for universal values. We strongly believe in the principles of mediation, conciliation and negotiation to limit the spread of conflicts. We stand committed to our conference theme 'Resolve to Evolve'.
